Azerbaijan aims to develop light-emitting diodes production in the country.

The State Fund for Development of Information Technologies will finance the deployment of the country's LED production in 2015, the fund reported.

The use of LED technologies is primarily envisaged for street lighting in the capital. LED lighting system is expected to be used for decorative and general lighting of architectural buildings, streets, parks and main roads in the capital.

Solid-state lighting is energy efficient and environmentally friendly, as opposed to ordinary incandescent bulbs. This type of lightening allows saving up to 80 percent of consumed energy.

The commercial project will be implemented by the Azerbaijani Research Center for High Technologies and South Korea’s LG Company.

After meeting the needs of the country, the technologies will be exported to international markets.

The LED mass production is expected to be deployed at the Hi-Tech Park. Currently, the country uses the LED production technology, the Research Center told earlier.

Earlier, Azerbaijan had expressed willingness to develop its own technology of chip production.

To this end, the country plans to allocate over $7 million for working on the technology of developing chips based on thin layers.

Launching chip production in Azerbaijan will allow local producers to use them in the electronics industry.

The chips which are planned to be produced can be used in LED light sources, telephone handsets, micro and nano-electronic devices, biological systems, defense, and other areas.
