Turkmen carbamide to be transported via Azerbaijan

By Nigar Abbasova
Turkmenistan plans to transport some 300,000 tons of carbamide (urea), which is in high demand in the global market, through Azerbaijan in 2017.
The decision came after the successful implementation of test transportation via the country in late 2016.
Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) reported that the first test transit of cargo (urea) from Turkmenistan through Azerbaijan to the Black Sea was implemented in December 2016. Within the transportation process, the cargo was delivered by vessels to Baku terminal and further to Georgia via railway.
Due to adverse weather conditions and traffic congestion, the freight was delivered not to the new port located in Alat settlement, but to the old Baku port
ADY actively participates in the implementation of strategically important international transport corridor projects, while the main objective is to attract transit cargo from Middle and East Asia to Europe and backward. Cooperation of the company with the Baku International Sea Trade Port is one of the constituent elements in the attraction of freight traffic to the country.
Azerbaijan's advantageous geographical position at the crossroads between East and West and developed transport infrastructure attracts various countries, which wish to transport their cargoes through the territory of the country. Growing interest in the transport infrastructures passing through Azerbaijan's territory is expected to make Azerbaijan a major transport hub in the region.
Azerbaijan plans to increase the volume of cargo transit through its territory bringing huge profits to the economy. In September 2016 Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan signed the Ashgabat Declaration to create a transport corridor from Beijing to London.
