When do we change our clocks?

Azerbaijan will switch to summer time by setting the clocks one hour forward at 04:00am on March 27, Sunday.

Sunrise and sunset will be about 1 hour later on March 27, 2016 than the day before. There will be lighter in the evening.

The practice was first introduced in Europe during the First World War. The idea was to take advantage of the longest summer days by gaining an extra hour of daylight and shortening the days in winter.

The concept was actually brought by American inventor and politician Benjamin Franklin, back in 1784. He suggested that starting the day earlier in summer will save a considerable number of candles.

Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers passed a decision on application of summer and winter time in 1997. Under the decision, the country passes to winter time on last Sunday in October every year and to the summer time – on last Sunday in March.

Some experts argue that body`s natural rhythms can be disturbed with the daylight-saving time.

So, what actually happens to our body? With transition to the daylight savings the cortisol (stress hormone) peaks a full hour later than it did after daylight-saving time ended.

The negative impacts include higher rate of headaches, irritability, anxiety as well as fatigue and daytime sleepiness.

However the story is not all bleak. There are simple methods to make this task extremely easy. Set yourself to wake up a little earlier than usual, eat a healthy breakfast, go for a walk and don't let yourself depend on the weather outside.
