The prospects for the Azerbaijani relations with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are to be discussed in Brussels.

Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov is scheduled to meet with NATO officials during his visit, which began on June 2, the ministry's press service said.

The Azerbaijani delegation headed by Hasanov will familiarize with the activities of staff and command the allied forces of NATO in Europe.

The visit is held at the invitation of the NATO's supreme allied commander for Europe, General Philip Breedlove.

General Hasanov will also attend the next meeting of the defense ministers of the alliance partners, which will be held in Brussels on June 4.

NATO and Azerbaijan are actively cooperating on democratic, institutional, and military reforms, and enjoy practical cooperation in various areas.

The cooperation plan between Azerbaijan and the NATO is set out in the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) on Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan aspires to achieve Euro-Atlantic standards and get closer to Euro-Atlantic institutions. In this regard, supporting reform in the security sector and establishing democratic institutions are the key elements of the NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation.
