U.S. welcomes Azeri efforts to ensure Iran is not making nuclear bomb
The U.S. strongly appreciates Azerbaijan's contribution to supporting the global community in its efforts to ensure that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons, US deputy ambassador Adam Sterling told journalists on Friday.
"The whole world is interested in preventing Iran from acquiring such weapons. Azerbaijan, as a neighbor of Iran, certainly has a particularly strong interest in this," Sterling said.
Sterling said the U.S. believes it is making progress in this regard, and the international community is convincing the Iranian government that it has good options to develop the country's economy.
The U.S. and other Western countries accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons under the cover of a peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the allegations, saying its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful.
