Azeri frontier guard killed in shooting with trespassers
BAKU – Armed trespassers attempting to cross the Azerbaijani border from Iran on Sunday afternoon clashed with frontier guards, killing one of them, Azerbaijan’s State Border Service said.
The violators illegally crossed the border near a village of Azerbaijan’s Yardimli region. Lieut. Rufat Guliyev, head of the frontier guards detachment, was fatally wounded in the shooting.
The border trespassing attempt was thwarted and the intruders escaped to Iran.
